Hi,

This flash uses 4 x AA batteries. The auxiliary power pack uses a further 6 or 8 AA batteries - I cannot remember. It adds capacity and reduces recycle time significantly.

Mr Ullman -
I contacted Cokin probably 10 years ago about this flash, and they could find nobody in the company that still knew anything about it. Hopefully, the reason your flash isn't working is something simple, like corrosion in the battery chamber, otherwise it is going to be very difficult to repair.

Sorry!

Nice article Roy!

Just wanted to add a note that the 48 oz Dr JB's Feeder sells at our store for just $25.44, which is cheaper than the smaller, glass bottle version. The XL 80 oz model will sell for $27.00.

One more point, the larger sizes are in poly bottles that are guaranteed to not crack and they are treated with UV inhibitors.

Roy, drop me a line. I'd like to get you to try a Dr JB's Hummingbird Feeder. It's not a large enough capacity for your peak season needs but it's ethically designed with an easy to clean base and bottle, easy to fill, etc.

Based on your writings, your compassion for birds & wildlife and my own experience with the feeder, I'm fairly certain that you'll like it.

I'd like to get one to you and perhaps you could simply write honestly about your experience. Email me if interested.

Hi,
I designed the Fotronix StopLight SL-80 back around 2001 as a safer, more flexible version of the Olsons, and we were successful in selling it internationally for a few years. Most of the high speed flash market can be addressed today using either Speedlites dialed down to 1/64th power (or whatever is suitable) or flashes such as Sunpak 555's, 544's ,or Metz guns dialed down in similar fashion. If you need more light, use more flashes. These will all get close to 20 or 30 microsecond durations. If you need sub-microsecond duration, try the SPOT Flash from Prism Science Works.
Thanks for your interest,

Roy.
